Course Descriptions

Neonatal - Fistulas & Atresias (NGA)
This module includes an overview of fistulas and atresias in the newborn. Take a closer look at the physiology of fistulas and atresias on their own as well as how they may function together. Initial interventions and other types of atresias will also be discussed in this module. Also included is a case scenario that puts into practice the learner's understanding of the material. 

Neonatal Abdominal Wall Defects (NGA) 
This module includes a description of various abdominal wall defects, their prognosis, surgical and long term picture, possible management and finally, considerations for pain control. It also includes a case scenario that puts into practice the learner's understanding of the material. 

Neonatal Apnea 
This module includes the definitions of apnea and apnea of prematurity. It also includes the differences between obstructive and central apnea along with key preventative measures when caring for the infant diagnosed with apnea. This module includes a case scenario that puts into practice what the learner understands of the material. 

Neonatal Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (NRA)
This module includes an overview of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia in the newborn; its influences, presentation, signs & symptoms and support required. It also covers issues relating to fluids, nutrition and pharmacological treatments. It also includes a case scenario that puts into practice the learner's understanding of the material. 

Neonatal Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
This module includes a comprehensive explanation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, as well as the signs, symptoms, and treatment options. Discussion on how the pulmonary system is implicated and the use of ECMO will help you to understand the extent of CDH effects. This module includes a case scenario that puts into practice the learner's understanding of the material. 

Neonatal Gastrointestinal Assessment 
This module includes the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal system, normal and abnormal findings of the GI system in your daily assessment, and a description of a number of pathologies related to the GI system. It also includes two case scenarios that put into practice the learner's understanding of the material.

Neonatal Gastrointestinal System Basic A & P (NGA) 
This module includes an overview of the basic anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal system. It also covers some of the baseline tests and procedures that are performed in relation to the GI system and their diagnoses. A case scenario will put into practice the learner's understanding of the material. 

Neonatal Malrotation & Volvulus (NGA) 
This module includes an overview of malrotation and volvulus in the newborn as well as annular pancreas, Hirschsbrung's and meconium ileus. A review of the signs and symptoms, initial management and Ladd Procedure for malrotation and volvulus will be presented. It also includes a case scenario that puts into practice the learner's understanding of the material. 

Neonatal Respiratory Assessment 
This module includes the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, normal and abnormal findings of the respiratory system in your daily assessment, and a brief description of many of the common respiratory pathologies we see in the neonatal intensive care unit. It also includes two case scenarios that put into practice the learner's understanding of the material. 

Neonatal Respiratory Assessment Fast Track (NRA) 
This module includes the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, normal and abnormal findings of the respiratory system in your daily assessment, and a very brief description of gas exchange, oxygenation and mechanical ventilation. It also includes a case scenario that puts into practice the what the learner understands of the material. 

Neonatal Respiratory System Basic A & P (NRA)
This module includes the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system as well as normal and abnormal findings of the respiratory system in your daily assessment. It also includes a case scenario that puts into practice the learner's understanding of the material.
